Copenhagen - Elsinore | Route 9

A beautiful cycling route with the Sound on one side and beautiful nature and magnificent villas on the other.

The stretch Copenhagen, Hellerup, Elsinore is probably one of Denmark's most beautiful cycling routes when measuring on views and most expensive when measuring on the price per square meter of villas!

You cycle along the water almost all the way. It is difficult to recommend one beautiful break place over the other. Still, we can mention five options.

Five stops along the way

Karen Blixen Museum, Rungstedlund
Nivaagaard Painting Collection, Level
Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk
Nature reserve Nivå Strandenge, Nivå
Espergærde harbour, Espergærde

Cycle route 9 follows the Øresund/ The Sound coast from Copenhagen to Hellerup and on to Rungsted, Humlebæk to Elsinore, approximately 70 kilometres. Be aware that during the weekend there is a lot of traffic on Strandvejen and that the route is very popular among fast-cycling exercisers.

The route is part of Helsingør-Copenhagen-Gedser-Berlin (EuroVelo route 7). If you take the bike with the ferry from Helsingør to Helsingborg, you can continue on the Swedish Kattegatsleden, which leads all the way to Gothenburg!
